Darwin Scott, Creative Arts Librarian, attended the 69th Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society in Houston on November 13-16. A member of the society's Committee on Career-Related Issues, Darwin coordinated this year's first "Conference Buddy Program," an informal means for established members of the organization to welcome and connect with newer members and less experienced attendees.

Book: Women and Equality in the Workplace

Leslie Stebbins, Library Intensive Instruction Coordinator, co-authored a book that has just been released: Women and Equality in the Workplace: A Reference Handbook by Janet Zollinger Giele and Leslie F. Stebbins, ABC-CLIO, 2003.

Judith Pinnolis, Reference Librarian for Training and Information Desk Coordinator, spoke at an international conference Only in America: Jewish Music in a Land of Freedom held in New York this November. Judy delivered two talks on the music of Miriam Gideon and on using the Internet to expand access to Jewish music resources. This event was one of the largest ever held in the United States on Jewish music.

Katherine Button, Reference Librarian, Science Library, was re-elected to a third term as a Trustee of the Watertown Free Public Library.

This Fall the Gerstenzang Science Library welcomed two new staff members, Lauren Ellis and Sarah Sweeney. In September, Lauren Ellis started her job as Evening/weekend Circulation supervisor for the Science Library. She connects to Brandeis in another way, as a Ph.D. candidate specializing in Victorian literature in the English Department. Sarah Sweeney is the new Science Library Access Services Supervisor. A graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, she worked at the Hyannis Public Library before coming to Brandeis.
