Darwin Scott,
Creative Arts Librarian, attended the 69th Annual Meeting of the
American Musicological Society in Houston on November 13-16. A
member of the society's Committee on Career-Related Issues,
Darwin coordinated this year's first "Conference Buddy
Program," an informal means for established members of the
organization to welcome and connect with newer members and less
experienced attendees.
Leslie Stebbins, Library Intensive Instruction
Coordinator, co-authored a book that has just been released:
Women and Equality in the Workplace: A Reference Handbook by
Janet Zollinger Giele and Leslie F. Stebbins, ABC-CLIO, 2003.
Judith Pinnolis, Reference Librarian for Training and
Information Desk Coordinator, spoke at an international conference
Only in
America: Jewish Music in a Land of Freedom held in New York
this November. Judy delivered two talks on the music of Miriam
Gideon and on using the Internet to expand access to Jewish music
resources. This event was one of the largest ever held in the
United States on Jewish music.
Katherine Button, Reference Librarian, Science Library,
was re-elected to a third term as a Trustee of the Watertown Free
Public Library.
This Fall the Gerstenzang Science Library welcomed two new staff
members, Lauren Ellis and Sarah Sweeney. In
September, Lauren Ellis started her job as Evening/weekend
Circulation supervisor for the Science Library. She connects to
Brandeis in another way, as a Ph.D. candidate specializing in
Victorian literature in the English Department. Sarah Sweeney is
the new Science Library Access Services Supervisor. A graduate of
Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, she worked at the Hyannis Public
Library before coming to Brandeis.
