Librarian/Science Library
You told us. We listened! Many people politely inquired if the
Brandeis Libraries could subscribe to the Nature Review journals.
Some of you talked with us in person, some sent emails, and some
requested the journals in the recent LibQual survey. Launched in
October 2000, the peer-reviewed Nature Review journals rank at the
top of the monthly review journals in their respective fields of
cell biology, drug discovery, genetics, immunology, neuroscience,
and oncology. As of January 1, 2005, members of the Brandeis
Community may now access the online versions of Nature Reviews: Cancer, Drug Discovery, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Cell Biology, and
Neuroscience.
The Science Library makes every effort to offer a balanced
portfolio of electronic products to our users. A discovery that
some products registered zero to negligible use made it possible
for us to reassign funds to purchase access rights to the Nature
Review series. Also, for your reading pleasure, the Science Library
maintains online access to EMBO reports, the companion to
EMBO Journal).
Recently, a representative from the Web of Science
demonstrated to the Library Staff new features to this
multidisciplinary database. While the Brandeis Libraries has
subscribed to this service for several years, the makers of Web of
Science keep surprising us with added features. See New & Notable Resources
for a brief run-down of improvements to the Web of Science.
One final note from the LibQual survey: several people commented
they want the Science Library to be QUIET! The staff are very
enthusiastic about their work and sometimes forget to keep voices
down. We'll do all that we can to make the Library a pleasant
place to study. Do let us know when the noise threshold is too
high. We aim to please.
