Setting up an Adobe GoLive CS2 Site File on Mac 10.4 (Tiger)
There currently is an issue affecting web developers using Adobe GoLive CS2 and the latest version of Mac's OS (10.4.x, also known as Tiger). This has been reported to Adobe engineers, and they are working toward a resolution.
Please also note that though Mac added internet file sharing via WebDAV in Jaguar (OS 10.2.x), WebDAV over SSL is not supported in older versions of Mac OS 10.2 and 10.3 (so you should make sure that your OS is up to date on Software Updates).
Already have a site file set up?
After creating the site file, you'll need to remember to connect to the server BEFORE you open the site file.
Connecting to the server using the built-in Mac OS X WebDAV browser
- In the "Finder" menu, click on Go > Connect to Server (COMMAND K)

- In "Connect to Server" menu, enter
https://webserver.brandeis.edu/DIRECTORY/
in which you fill in DIRECTORY with the location where your website is located; for example, for the GSAS website I would type in /gsas/ and for the SJSP website I would type in /programs/interdepartmental/sjsp

- In the "WebDAV File System Authentication" menu, enter your Brandeis UNet id and password

- After successfully entering your credentials, you should see the following icon on your desktop (which will also appear in the upper left-hand corner of the Finder menu); this icon will allow you to "see" all of the files on the server.

Creating a new site file in Adobe GoLive CS2
- Open Adobe GoLive CS2
- Select File > New
- In the window that opens choose Site > Create a Site > Blank Site and click Next.

- Give your site a name. This is the LOCAL folder that will be created on your hard drive, so you can name it anything you like (that will help you remember what the files are for). Suggestions include "My Department Site", or "{deptname} site".

- Decide where on your hard drive you'd like the folder to be saved. Use the Browse button to navigate to that spot on your computer (a common location is "Documents"). Click next.
- Leave "Don't Use Version Control" selected and click next.
- Choose specify server now and enter the following information:
Nickname: The nickname is just a way to remember the server for people who edit multiple sites. You can give this the same name that you gave the site file.

- Click Finish.
The (almost) empty site file will open. On the left (local) side, delete the folder (which has a file inside of it) called CSS

- Click to download all files from the server

- Click OK to download all files from your site
You have now setup your GoLive site file. Edit the local files on the right side. When ready, click to upload files to make them live on your website.
Remember: connect to the server BEFORE you open the site file!

Modifying an existing site file in Adobe GoLive CS2
If you already have a site fle, you'll need to tell GoLive not to act as the agent to connect to the webserver but to use the connection made through the Mac OS.

- Once you have the directory mapped, click to open your site file in GoLive.
- Inside the site file, click on "Site" > "Settings".

- Inside the site settings, click on "Publish server" in the left column, and make the following modifications:
Nickname: The nickname is just a way to remember the server for people who edit multiple sites. You can give this the same name that you gave the site file.
Then, click OK.
