Setting up an Adobe GoLive Site File

This page explains how to creating a new site file after having Adobe GoLive CS2 installed, using WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning) over SSL (Secure Socket Layer) as the protocol to connect to the server.

After installing Adobe GoLive CS2 and updating to the latest patch (inside Help > Updates), please follow these instructions to create a new Adobe GoLive CS2 Site file.

  1. Open GoLive CS2
  2. Select File > New
  3. In the window that opens choose Site > Create a Site > Blank Site and click Next

  4. Give your site a name. This is the LOCAL folder that will be created on your hard drive, so you can name it anything you like (that will help you remember what the files are for). Suggestions include "My Department Site", or "{deptname} site".

  5. Decide where on your hard drive you'd like the folder to be saved. Use the Browse button to navigate to that spot on your computer (a common location is "My Documents"). Click next.

  6. Leave "Don't Use Version Control" selected and click next.

  7. Choose specify server now and enter the following information:
    Nickname: The nickname is just a way to remember the server for people who edit multiple sites. You can give this the same name that you gave the site file.
    Protocol: Select http
    Server: Type in webserver.brandeis.edu
    Directory: Type in the directory your website is located in, for example for the GSAS website I would type in /gsas/ and for the SJSP website I would type in /programs/interdepartmental/sjsp
    Username: Type in your UNet ID username

  8. Click advanced, select SSL, click OK and click Finish

  9. The (almost) empty site file will open. On the left (local) side delete the folder CSS

  10. Click to connect to the server. You will see the server files (your live website's files) appear on the right.
       

  11. Login with your UNet ID and password
       

    (Make sure that you do not save your password inside GoLive!)

  12. Click to download all files from the server
       

  13. Click OK to download all files from your site

  14. Click to synchronize files (this tells GoLive that the files on your computer and on the server are the same)
       

  15. Click okay to synchronize files

You have now setup your GoLive site file. Edit the local files on the right side. When ready, click to upload files to make them live on your website.
