Personal home pages can be published on people.brandeis.edu. Simply place files in the WWW directory within your UNet space to have them published at http://people.brandeis.edu/~unetname/ . To replace the default file listing with a custom web page, name the page index.html.
No special features are supported for personal home pages. We support normal web publishing without access control or scripts. Staff and faculty with personal pages on another system (CS, for example), may list their home page URL in the online directory. Simply look yourself up in the directory and click on "update."
Group directories are available for recognized student clubs and other organizations that are run by users. To request a club directory, visit https://unet.brandeis.edu/groups/. All members with write privileges must have UNet accounts.
It normally takes approximately one week for a group to be approved and created. Undergraduate clubs must be recognized on the ClubCenter site before web space is granted.
To add, edit, and access your group's files, you must have permission to do so. For more information on permissions and how they are obtained, see the Club Administration Guide.
Uploading your group's web pages is similar to uploading to your UNet space. If you are not sure how to upload to your UNet space, see the Servers and Filesharing Page.
Connect to UNet in the usual way with your usual personal username and password. Open the folder of your group's name, and place the web page files in the WWW folder. Your group's home directory is also accessible through Windows file sharing as \\UNETHOME\groupname.
Like your personal web space, your group's website will be located at http://www.brandeis.edu/~groupname
For information on listing your group in the club directory, go to the Club Center.
Official web pages are stored on www.brandeis.edu, which has some additional features and additional restrictions compared with the users' web server, www.unet.brandeis.edu.
Note: www.brandeis.edu is a read-only server for publishing only. In order to change content on www.brandeis.edu, you must connect to its sister server, webserver.brandeis.edu. This separation of roles helps us manage the server securely.
The placement of departments and projects varies according to the design of the official university web site. In general, departments are found in http://www.brandeis.edu/departments/.
You should start with your local Technology Coordinator if you need basic information on how to build web pages and transfer them over the network.
Contact Web and Library Application Services in order to set up a web page for a university department that does not yet have one. They will help integrate your site into the overall design of www.brandeis.edu.
