We've had a busy year of upgrading our voice networks to add functionality for our end users. From the ability to immediately divert calls to voicemail (iDivert) to a cell phone style phonebook application (Contacts) right on your telephone, these features focus on allowing users to get the most out of their telephone. We've also added a new Dial by Name directory that is surprisingly good at allowing users to connect to other users on campus. And speaking of connecting with other users, the Department Directory application allows you to list and dial all the other users in your department right on the screen of their telephone.
As always, we will continue to look for new ways to add functionality as well as make the system easier to use. Please feel free to mail any suggestions to itsvoice@brandeis.edu.
The phone system now has the ability to notify your Brandeis email account when you receive a voicemail message. You also will receive a reminder each morning in your email box if you have unread messages.
The iDivert softkey allows a user to immediately direct a call to their voicemail box. This frees up their line for the next incoming call and also saves the user from having to listen to their phone ringing for the 4 times that it is necessary.
When a call is coming in to a user's phone, you will notice a softkey button labeled iDivert, as seen below:
Simply press the softkey beneath the iDivert label and the caller will be transfered to your voicemail box.
We are currently testing a new Contacts management application for our phone system. This will allows users to manage an individual list of contacts very much like current cell phone address books do. We are currently looking for users to try out our test version of this application.

We have implemented an automated Dial by Name Directory on campus. By dialing 65555 you will automatically be connected to the directory. Simple speak the name of the party that you are trying to reach and you will be connected. If you are unable to find the person you are looking for, say OPERATOR and you will be transferred to a live operator. This system is quite remarkable considering the many challenging names that we have on campus!
The voicemail system now has the ability for the user to set and schedule the ending for Alternate Greetings. This means that if a user would like to set a greeting to play to callers during their week's vacation, they can. When the user selected end time is reached, the message switches back to their normail voicemail message. Hopefully this fixes the 2 week old away at vacation messages!
To setup an Alternate Greeting, login to your voicemail box, simply follow these instructions:
* Press 4-1-2 to get to Alternate Greeting Menu.
* Press 1 To schedule an end date.
* Choose duration in days. 0 will end later today, 1 for tomorrow, 2 for the day after, etc. Press 9 to choose month and day.
* Enter time to end in hours and minutes and press #.
* Enter 1 for AM, 2 for PM.
* Record your message.
Now, all of the phone numbers in your directory are available by the touch of a button or two. Simply press the Directories button on the right hand side of your phone, choose Department Directory (or Press 5). This will list all of the people who are in your department. Get to know your office mates!
