Most incoming students fail to get all the necessary details about a university's phone, cable, and Internet services before coming to campus. This webpage is designed to give you the information you need to make sure you bring what you need and leave what you don't. If you have any questions, call the UNet Help Desk at 781-529-UNET.
While the vast majority of students have their own computers, it's not absolutely necessary. Brandeis offers several public computing clusters and printers (Click here to learn more). If you bring your computer to campus, Brandeis offers both a wired and wireless network. The insecure wireless network requires an 802.11b compliant wireless card while the secure wireless network requires a WPA2 compliant card. The wired network requires a standard ethernet card; both are available in the recommended computers.

Two ethernet cables are required in order to connect to the wired network. While returning students must supply their own cables, incoming first-years can get a free, extra-long ethernet cable when they come to campus. A second cable comes with the VOIP phone that you pick up when you move in.
At the moment, Brandeis is testing a TV over IP service that has a limited channel selection. A cable TV network is still in use and offers a vast array of channels. In order to watch TV, you'll need a Cable compliant TV and an extra-long coaxial cable (CATV wire). While it isn't necessary to bring your TV's manual and a remote, it helps when you're trying to configure your TV.
