The First Commandment of Computers: Thou shalt back up thy data!

Why should I back up my data?

Computers break, files corrupt, and bad things happen to your data.  It happens surprisingly often.  If you have not backed up your data, you will lose things you value that can never be replaced, such as course work and pictures of family and friends.  Don’t let this happen to you!

What are my options?

There are several ways to back up your data.  Some are good for long-term storage, others are better for short-term storage only.

Your UNet file space is safest storage of all, but it requires a little preparation, and how you do it depends on whether you’re on campus or off, and whether you’re using a Mac or a PC.  If you need help sorting it out, please call the UNet Help Desk at 781-529-UNET.  (LTS is working on a simpler method, to be unveiled in late 2007.  Stay tuned!)
