Backing up your data on CD

If your computer’s CD drive is of the CD-RW type, you can burn your files to CD for long term storage.  CD’s and DVD’s last about five years, or longer if stored away from heat and light.   Most CD's hold about 700MB of data (DVD's can hold between 4 and 5GB).

Some tips for CD-RW drives:

Blank CD’s come in two types.  If your computer has a CD-RW drive, you can use either CD-R discs (which you can use only once) or CD-RW discs (which you can use over and over again).  Blank CD's are widely available, or can be purchased at the campus bookstore.
