July 16, 2008 – Continued Fraudulent E-mail Messages at Brandeis

Members of the Brandeis community continue to receive fraudulent e-mail messages requesting that they provide their UNet ID and password. Some of these messages claim to be from the Brandeis Help Desk or claim to be related to an email upgrade. This type of information security attack, called “phishing,” tries to obtain your UNet ID and password for unauthorized and illegal purposes.

  • Library and Technology Services will NEVER ask you to provide your password in an e-mail.
  • If you receive a suspicious message, forward it to security@brandeis.edu and then delete it.
  • Do NOT reply to, click on a link, or provide information in response to such a message.
  • If you do inadvertently reply, change your password immediately and call the Help Desk.

LTS is able to block almost all fraudulent messages before they ever reach your e-mail account. We need your help with the very few that get through. Please be vigilant by adhering to these recommendations. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the LTS Help Desk or Information Security
