Installation Instructions

Description of the Software

SPSS, (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), is a data management and analysis product produced by SPSS, Inc., featuring modules for statistical data analysis, including descriptive statistics such as plots, frequencies, charts, and lists, as well as sophisticated inferential and multivariate statistical procedures like analysis of variance (ANOVA), factor analysis, cluster analysis, and categorical data analysis.


Join the Local User Group and Mailing List

Questions about the use of SPSS should be directed to the Brandeis SPSS User Group. If you would like to join the local Brandeis SPSS User Group, email user group coordinator Graham Wright at spss@brandeis.edu.


Ask to join the Brandeis-Boston SPSS User Group mailing list:

  1. Click on the following link: https://lists.brandeis.edu/wws/subrequest/spss-users
  2. Brandeis community members: enter your UNet ID in the email address field, hit submit, and enter your UNet password in the subsequent password field.
  3. Off campus users: enter your email address in the email address field and hit submit.
  4. Your request to join will be forwarded to the SPSS User Group coordinator and an email will be sent to you when you are added to the list.


How to Acquire SPSS

Brandeis has signed a license agreement that allows us to provide SPSS, a data management and statistical analysis software product, to all Brandeis faculty, staff and students. This agreement, which includes SPSS for Macintosh and Windows as well as selected SPSS modules, permits SPSS to be installed on any University computer. In addition, the agreement's "home-use" rights enable SPSS to be installed on home computers. The SPSS installer will not run on an Intel / OSX computer.

SPSS licenses need to be re-newed each year. Un-install and re-install the application when instructed and contact the Tech Desk for the new key.

All Users on Campus:

Visit software.brandeis.edu in a web browser. Click SPSS and download the latest version 

All Users off Campus:

Visit wormhole.brandeis.edu, login in, and enter "Software" in the box in the upper right. Click "Browse"

SPSS licenses expire annually. Contact the Tech Desk for assistance with license renewal or software installation.
