Software Purchasing

LTS has purchased campus licenses for some software and has arranged for special bulk pricing for other software packages. To purchase software listed on this page, please go to the Software Purchase Request Form.

Microsoft Products

Brandeis participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement, which allows all faculty and staff the rights to use the most current versions of the following products:

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Microsoft Office Standard and Professional Editions
  • Microsoft Office Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft BackOffice Server Client Access License (CAL)
  • Microsoft FrontPage
  • Microsoft Visual Studio Professional Edition
  • Microsoft Office Starts Here/Step by Step Interactive by Microsoft Press

This agreement provides the user with a license to use the software; but does not include the actual media. The campus agreement also allows for home use of Microsoft Office by faculty and staff, for business use only. A special home-use media kit containing a maximum of two installs for one machine can be purchased from the Repair Shop, for a $5 fee (faculty/staff ID required), or you can arrange to bring your home computer in to have the software installed by one of our technology coordinators at no charge.

The agreement does not allow for the loaning and distribution of media and install codes.

While on campus, faculty and staff can install MS Office software on authorized machines.

  1. Click on start
  2. Click on run

Macintosh Operating Systems

Brandeis has purchased licenses to allow any version of the Macintosh operating system to be installed on all university-owned Apple computers. This means faculty and staff are entitled to upgrade to the most current version of the Macintosh operating system at no additional cost. This agreement provides the user with a license to use the OS; it does not include the actual media or manuals, which may be purchased separately. Operating system upgrades will be installed by LTS staff or by departmental technology coordinators. Personal machines owned by faculty or staff are not included.

Linux Operating System

Brandeis University has an unlimited site license for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Network entitlements. Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS is licensed for all university owned machines and Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS is licensed for all students (including part-time, Continuing Studies, and BALI students) and for personal/home use by university employees.

Calendar/Scheduling

The university owns a site license for Oracle Corporate Time, an updated version of Steltor Calendar (formerly known as CS&T Calendar or Netscape Calendar). Faculty and staff may download this program for PCs and for Macs or arrange for installation by calling the office.

Please note that to use this program you will need to request an account online.

EndNote (Bibliographic Management Software)

The University has purchased a site license for EndNote. The license covers all faculty, staff and students, on campus and at home use.

SPSS/SAS (Statistics)

The University has purchased a site license for SPSS. The license covers all faculty, staff and students, on campus and at home use. Installation instructions can be found here: SPSS

SAS is available via the software request form for $50.

Special Purchasing Agreements

LTS is able to obtain certain programs at substantial discounts due to academic pricing and bulk purchasing agreements. These prices provide the user with a license to use the software but not with the actual media or manuals, which may be purchased separately. Programs will be installed on university machines by LTS staff. Faculty or staff members interested in acquiring any of the programs listed on this page should complete the software request form.

Please note that all prices are subject to change.
