Supported Browsers

Browser support is a difficult issue that requires balancing many conflicting concerns. This page explains what browsers LTS supports, for what applications, and our reasoning.

Which browser should I use?

For most tasks you should use either Firefox or Safari, whichever you feel more comfortable with. LTS does not recommend Internet Explorer because of its history of serious security issues. For applications not officially certified for use with Firefox and Safari, however, you may need to switch to Internet Explorer if you encounter problems. In that case, please let the Tech Desk know about the problem.

Supported Browser Table

While most web applications are designed to work with any web browser, some were created especially for Internet Explorer because it was the only popular browser at the time. These applications are not officially certified to work with Firefox or Safari, and may not work perfectly or at all in those browsers.

Though each browser is supported for each application, their respective versions vary. Consult this table for more accurate information. The version numbers represent the most recent version that is supported.

Firefox Internet Explorer Safari
WebCT Vista 1.5 7 2.0
WebCT CE 1.5 7 2.0
PeopleSoft / Sage   2.0* 7 1.2
Wormhole (SSL VPN) 2.0 6 2.0
IPTV 2.0 7 (not Vista) 2.0
Webedit (CMS) 2.0 7 2.0

* Firefox 1.0 is required for PeopleSoft Financials
