Welcome to the Community Self-Support Model. Using this model, LTS can still provide some level of support to software users even though LTS may not have the expertise or resources to intensely support that software application.

For each type of CSSM software, LTS has identified a user coordinator who will help to manage a mailing list, develop Web page content, answer questions and troubleshoot problems, coordinate user meetings, teach training sessions, and coordinate workshops.

For example, for each software application that fits into this model, LTS has created a Web page which will:

  • identify a user coordinator
  • describe the software
  • explain how to join the local user group and mailing list
  • explain how to acquire the software
  • list library and other resources

CSSM software is listed below. Please click the name of the software to be directed to its page.

If you have suggestions for other software applications that should be included in this model, please contact Joanne Adamowicz.

FileMaker, produced by FileMaker Inc., is a database software that helps with the management of people, products and assets.

TeX is a compiled typesetting language for producing beautiful books and articles, as well as Powerpoint-like presentations, letters, business cards, and other kinds of document. TeX is especially adept at typesetting complicated mathematics.

SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a statistical and information system that performs sophisticated data management and statistical analysis.

SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), is a data management and analysis product produced by SPSS, Inc., featuring modules for statistical data analysis.

GIS (Geographic Information System) technology allows you to capture, store, analyze, and display geographically referenced information.

Mathematica, created by Wolfram Research, integrates a numeric and symbolic computational engine, graphics system, programming language, documentation system, and advanced connectivity to other applications.

MATLAB, produced by MathWorks, is a high-level language and interactive environment that allows more rapid prototyping and programming of computational tasks than do traditional programming languages.

LabVIEW, produced by National Instruments, is a powerful graphical development environment which can be used for signal acquisition, measurement analysis, and data presentation.

ChemOffice is a suite of software, consisting of ChemDraw, Chem3D, ChemFinder and ChemACX.
