Brandeis University Desktop Refresh Program
The Desktop Refresh Program
As technology has grown more important in our professional lives, the need to stay current with ever changing hardware and software has become more essential. To insure that faculty and administrative offices have adequate technological resources, LTS has developed the Desktop Refresh program. In conjunction with the Academic Dean's office, LTS has placed Arts and Sciences departments and administrative offices on a refresh cycle. Every four or five years, depending on need, each individual staff or faculty member receives a new computer and updated software. Computers in the refresh program can get updated software any time during the cycle. LTS staff set up the new computers, load the software, and transfer files from the old computers to the new ones. All individuals in the same department that are receiving new hardware are usually completely refreshed in a single day so as to minimize the disruption. Departments not included in the refresh program are also invited to participate at their own expense. Because LTS purchases in bulk, we are able to obtain discounts substantially below the standard Higher Education prices. Contact the Tech Desk if you like to join the program.
Each person has a choice of one of two standard models, currently a Dell or an Apple desktop computer. Computers in the desktop refresh program are leased and must be returned in good condition. Users should not write on the computer, attach stickers, glue on attachments, or otherwise deface the computer.
All computers are purchased with a service agreement covering all parts and labor. If your computer should experience problems, please contact the Tech Desk at x67782. Hardware problems will be handled through the LTS Repair Shop at x64801.
When your computer is replaced, you will have an opportunity to purchase the CPU, keyboard and mouse. For more specific information, click on the following link:
