About UNet Accounts

What is a UNet Account?

Your UNet account is a single username and password that provides access to services including:

  • email
  • access to other computers (servers) that will share files across the network
  • network storage space so you can save your files remotely as well as locally on your PC
  • space for personal web pages
  • the ability to print to a variety of printers on campus in various locations
  • access to library services including online reference works, electronic journals and magazines, electronic indexes to scholarly literature, online library catalogs, and specialized databases
  • directory services for computers and telephones that let you easily look up the phone numbers and email addresses of other users on the Brandeis network
  • web-based access to course materials
  • administrative systems (sage)

Your UNet username is up to eight lowercase letters and numbers. You can add an alias through the "Mail Options" page on https://unet.brandeis.edu/.

UNet Account Policies

Opening an Account

Regular UNet Accounts

If you are a Brandeis student, employee, or faculty member, or otherwise affiliated with Brandeis (see Sponsored Accounts below), you are eligible for a UNet account. This account gives you access to email (@brandeis.edu), file service, personal web page publishing, and authorization for network services. Go to the UNet web site at https://unet.brandeis.edu/ to obtain a UNet account and email address.

New graduate and undergraduate students will receive account activation instructions from the admissions department in the mail.

Group accounts are not supported. Student organizations, see https://unet.brandeis.edu/groups/. Administrative departments, use mailing lists, aliases, or see http://courier.brandeis.edu/doc.html. For help with alternatives, contact LTS.

Sponsored UNet Accounts

Opening a sponsored account begins exactly the same way at https://unet.brandeis.edu/

If the UNet account registration process does not recognize you as a current student, staff, or faculty affiliate, you can open a sponsored account. This process will be required for visiting researchers, contractors, etc. not on the Brandeis payroll, and may also be required for regular staff who have not been entered into the system yet. Confirm with your supervisor or other Brandeis contact that they will agree to sponsor an account for you. Then return to https://unet.brandeis.edu/accounts/, fill out the form, and click the button labeled "Request Help From a Human Being." This will bring you to another form. Provide your affiliation and personal information (birthdate is requested solely to help find matches in HR and student databases) and submit the form. You and your sponsor will receive an email message when an administrator has acted on your request.

All sponsored accounts are pre-expired (default expiration date is six months) but may be renewed upon request.

Password Policy

For security, UNet account passwords expire every nine months. An email reminder will be sent automatically before the expiration date. You must change your password before the expiration date, or you will be unable to access your account. It is the responsibility of each user to change their password regularly if they wish to maintain uninterrupted access to their account.

To change or reset expired passwords, go to https://unet.brandeis.edu and choose Change Password.

If you ever forget your password, you will need to come to the Help Desk (for undergraduates) or the Tech Desk (for faculty/staff/grad students) in-person in order to change it. For such an event, you need to know the answer to the challenge question you created when you created the account. You can view or change your challenge question on unet.brandeis.edu.

Account Use and Maintenance

Eligible Brandeis University community members are entitled to one account per person. Duplicate accounts will be closed.
