This document will guide you through configuring Mozilla Thunderbird to access your Brandeis email account.
Thunderbird is a free email program developed by the Mozilla Project that runs on Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers. You can download it from the Mozilla website. If you're not sure how to install it, look at the detailed instructions at the beginning of this article. You can stop reading that article when you get to the Configuration section, and read on below for Brandeis-specific directions.
Account Wizard, open the File menu, click New, then click Account from the list that appears.Brandeis UNet account. If that's not an option, click Email account.Next button.
Your Name, enter your name as you would like it to appear on messages you send.Email Address, enter your UNet username followed by @brandeis.edu. If you chose Brandeis UNet Account in the previous step, the @brandeis.edu part is already filled in for you and you do not need to enter it again.Next button.
Brandeis UNet Account in step 3, you will not see this screen. Instead, click Finish and then skip to step 10.Select the type of incoming server you are using, click IMAP.Incoming Server, enter imap.brandeis.edu.Outgoing Server, enter mail.brandeis.edu.Your SMTP server settings will be used, don't worry. You will be able to correct this in step 9.Next button.
Incoming User Name and Outgoing User Name. If not, enter it yourself. Be sure not to include @brandeis.edu at the end.Next button.
Account Name. If not, enter it yourself.Next button.
Finish button.Cancel instead.
Tools menu and click Account Settings.Server Settings right below it.Use secure connection (SSL)..
Outgoing Server.mail.brandeis.edu in step 4, enter it now next to Server Name.Port, enter 465.Use secure connection, click SSL.OK button.
Get Mail button at the top left corner of the window.OK button.
If you are using a computer from on campus, you can configure Thunderbird to use the Brandeis Directory. The directory is currently not supported for off campus users.
