Brandeis Directory and Mozilla Thunderbird

This document will guide you through configuring Thunderbird to use the Brandeis directory. You must be connected to the campus network to use the directory in this way. Off-campus use is not currently supported.

Configuring Thunderbird

Step 1

  • Before you begin, it is important that you have the latest version of Thunderbird installed on your computer. Visit the Thunderbird site to check which is the most recent version.

Step 2

  • Click on the Address Book button at the top left corner of the window.
  • In the window that appears, open the File menu, click New, and click LDAP Directory from the list that appears.

Step 3

  • Next to Name, enter Brandeis Directory.
  • Next to Hostname, enter ldap.unet.brandeis.edu.
  • Next to Base DN, enter o=Brandeis University
  • Click the OK button.

  • Close the Address Book window.
  • Open the Tools menu and click Options.
  • Click Composition on the top of the window and then click the Addressing tab.
  • Check the box next to Directory Server under Address Autocompletion
  • Select Brandeis Directory from the drop-down menu next to Directory Server
  • Click the OK button.

Step 5

  • Open the Tools menu and go to Account Settings
  • Click Composition and Addressing in the menu on the left
  • Click Use a different LDAP server under Addressing
  • From the drop-down menu, select Brandeis Directory
  • Click the OK button
