Brandeis Directory and Outlook Express




This document will guide you through configuring Outlook Express to use the Brandeis directory on a computer running Windows 98, Me, NT, 2000, or XP. You must be connected to the campus network to use the directory in this way. Off-campus use is not currently supported.

Configuring Outlook Express

Step 1

  • Before you begin, it is important that you have the latest version of Outlook Express installed on your computer. Visit the Microsoft Windows Update site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and choose Express Install. Follow the on-screen instructions to update all your Microsoft software to the latest version, including Outlook Express.

Step 2

  • Open the Tools menu and click on Accounts.
  • Click the Add button on the right side of the window.
  • Select Directory Service... from the list that appears.

Step 3

  • Enter ldap.unet.brandeis.edu.
  • Click the Next button.

Step 4

  • The No option should be selected. If not, select it yourself.
  • Click the Next button.

Step 5

  • Click the Finish button.

Step 6

  • Click the Properties button on the right side of the window.
  • Click the Advanced tab at the top of the window.
  • Next to Search base, enter o=Brandeis University.
  • Click the OK button.
  • Click the Close button on the bottom right side of the window.

Detailed instructions on how to use Outlook Express are beyond the scope of this document. Please refer to the Microsoft site for more information.
