Managing Your Email

Your Brandeis UNet email account is a "mailbox" composed of "folders". Initially, everyone starts with INBOX, intended for temporary storage of incoming email.

A few simple guidelines will help improve your email experience and avoid issues like slow message delivery, email send failures, and mailbox corruption. The easiest way to improve email performance is periodic maintenance: reducing the number of email messages in any one folder as well as reducing the overall size of your email account (measured in megabytes, MB).

These three steps will restore your mail account's performance:

  1. Check Usage: Open the "Current-Disk-Usage" folder to check the size of your e-mail account.
    • It should be less than 300 MB, and no actively used folder should have more than 300 messages.
  2. Delete Messages: Delete any unnecessary messages (particularly from the inbox and sent items).

  3. Organize Messages: Organize your mail by creating new folders in your email account and moving messages (particularly from the inbox and sent items) into folders with less than 300 messages.
