An email alias is another email address that sends messages to your regular UNet account. For example, someone with the UNet account joeschmo would receive messages sent to joeschmo@brandeis.edu. This person can create an email alias of nobody@brandeis.edu, but both email addresses would send messages to the same place. An email alias is not another UNet email account. Guidelines:
Every UNet account user can have two email aliases, in addition to their UNet account name. To add or change an email alias, log on to the Mail Options page.
To have your @brandeis.edu email delivered to another ISP account, log on to the Mail Options page. This is also where you'd go to add email aliases or change your published email address. Please note that most ISPs have much lower disk quotas and email attachment limits than Brandeis.
A vacation message is useful when you will be away from your email for a prolonged period of time. It sends an automatic message to everyone who emails you alerting them that you are away. You can customize the message to phrase this however you please. Setting a vacation message does not delete the email messages you will receive. You can set and edit your vacation message by logging onto IMP Webmail and clicking on "Vacation" in the top bar.
A UNet account implies numerous things besides an email account, such as a directory entry, personal file storage, and authorization for ancillary services. It would be inappropriate to create all of this when all you want is an email account. The "courier" server provides an email address, without any of the additional benefits of a UNet account. This server is designed to offer email accounts for which standard UNet accounts are not appropriate. For example, it is not necessary to give short-term employees or an office email account the whole range of UNet services. Email aliases often prove useful, but sharing UNet passwords is a security risk. Find out more and how to request a courier account by going to http://courier.brandeis.edu.

The grace period for student UNet accounts extends to the December 1st following graduation. No email will be delivered or forwarded after this date. Undergraduates who are registered for a subsequent Master's or Doctorate program at Brandeis do not need to worry about their accounts going away; they automatically stay open until the December 1st following award of the terminal degree. All alumni of Brandeis are entitled to an @alumni.brandeis.edu forwarding address. This facility provides a forwarding address only, not a UNet account. This lifetime address allows Brandeis alumni to keep one constant email address even when switching between Internet providers. Alumni who want to sign up for an @alumni.brandeis.edu account should log in on the Brandeis Alumni website and follow the instructions there.
