Can I use local folders in the web interface?
The web interface only accesses your data that is on the server and cannot accommodate local folders. But due to Bmail storing data so efficiently, you are utilizing less space than with the previous email architecture so you can move your local folders to the Bmail server. This will allow access via the web interface.
How do I search within Bmail to find something?
You can enter the search criteria in the field and click on the dropdown to change the location of the search.Additionally, you can save the search for future use by clicking on the save button and choosing a location for it. The Advanced button will allow you to further specify your criteria and allow the search to complete quicker.
You can also use the Zimbra search language in the search box. For example if you wanted to find all email from alwina in your inbox with an attachment you could type in:
in:inbox from:alwina has:attachment
For more info go to the zimbra support site on this topic
The search function is available on all the tabs in BMail and automatically defaults to look in the current tabs but you can change that by clicking on the down arrow to the left of the search button.
How can I share a portion of my Bmail account to other people?
You can right click on any folder and choose “share folder” and you can provide access by folder to individuals. Additionally, this functionality applies to Briefcase and Address Book. This feature is particularly useful for groups (more than one person) who need to access a set of information. Some of the more common uses for sharing a set of contacts are an emergency contact list or vendor list. Email folders can be shared with a department administrator or co-worker who may be your alternate contact.
Can I use mail filters to help me manage my incoming messages?
You can go to the mail filters tab within preferences and set up filtering criteria to help manage your messages. You just need to choose the criteria for any of the fields (such as the sender or subject) and the appropriate action (forwarding, moving to a folder, tagging or marking). You can set up multiple filters but will need to choose the order which they get processed.
Using the Briefcase
The briefcase is a powerfull file storage system integrated into Bmail. You can copy files to your briefcase and access them from anywhere you have internet access. You can also share these files with other Bmail users or to people not on Bmail like friends and co-workers. These are copies of your files and changes to them will only be reflected in the briefcase, not the original files. You can also connect to your files via WebDav using your PC or Apple Macintosh.
I currently use a lot of keyboard shortcuts in my email client, do those exist in Bmail web interface?
To find the full list of shortcuts visit the preferences tab and click on shortcuts but some of the more commonly used ones are:
You must be on the appropriate tab when using short cuts. “n” will create a new mail message or new contact if you are in your address book.
