Why should I use Brandeis-recommended software?

There are four good reasons to use Brandeis-recommended software:

• Recommended software has been reviewed for security and is safer to use
• Support staff have been trained in the use of recommended software, so when you call for help, you get answers
• It is easier to collaborate and share work when, as a community, we agree to use the same software
• Site licenses, bulk purchases, and discounts on recommended software are often available to Brandeis community members

That said, if you choose to use software not on the recommended list, we won't stop you (unless the software poses a security risk); but please be aware that you won't experience the same level of help as is available for supported software.
