Mailing Lists

As of June 2008, Library & Technology Services no longer creates Sympa mailing lists for academic classes. Instructors wishing to contact their entire class may do so through LATTE, Brandeis University's online learning environment. When an instructor posts to the "Course News & Announcements" forum found in every LATTE course, this post will be emailed automatically to all participants within the course.  More information about LATTE

Overview

A mailing list allows individuals to send email to a group of subscribers with similar interests.  Anyone with a UNet account may request a mailing list.  The contents of mailing lists can be public or private and subscribing to the mailing lists can be open to the world or limited by approval.  These options are controlled by the List Administrator (usually the person who requested the list). To create a list, use the online list request form. Once the list is created you can login at https://lists.brandeis.edu/wws to edit or maintain it.

Benefits

  • A large group can be contacted from anywhere using one email address.
  • Email correspondence for a list is archived.
  • Shared web space is available for every list. An organization can use this to post and share documents, presentations, web pages, etc.

Adding Subscribers

Here are step-by-step instructions on adding new subscribers to a list:

  1. Visit https://lists.brandeis.edu/wws.
  2. At the top of the page, click the "Brandeis Users Click Here to Login" button.
  3. Look at the "Your Lists" column on the left side of the screen to find the list you want to edit.
  4. Click the "Admin" button on the left side of the list. (Note: If you do not see "Admin" listed, you may not be an administrator of this list. Contact the Help Desk at x64357 for support).
  5. Select "Manage subscribers" under the List Administration Panel.
  6. Next to "Add a user," enter the desired email address.
  7. Click the "Add" button directly to the right.

To add more than one subscriber at a time, follow the above instructions and select the "Multiple Add" button on the Subscribers page. In the subsequent text box, enter your list of email addresses, one per line.
