Data Backup

Why should I back up my data?

Computers break, files corrupt, and bad things happen to your data.  It happens surprisingly often.  If you have not backed up your data, you will lose things you value that can never be replaced, such as course work and pictures of family and friends.  Don’t let this happen to you!

What are my options?

There are several ways to back up your data.  Some are good for long-term storage, others are better for short-term storage only.

Your UNet home directory is the safest storage of all.  The simplest method to access your UNet home directory is through Wormhole.  In any web browser, visit https://wormhole.brandeis.edu.  Log in with your Brandeis username and password and click on the link for UNet Home Directory.

You can also use a dedicated application to access your UNet home directory, but it requires a little preparation, and how you do it depends on whether you’re on campus or off, and whether you’re using a Mac or a PC.  If you need help sorting it out, please call the Help Desk at 781-736-4357.
