How to Find and Link to Journal Articles Online
This page is for instructors interested in creating links to online journals and other library information. Linking to online resources is an easy way to give your students access to the materials without scanning and posting them.

Finding Articles Online and Getting Their URLs
- Type your journal article citation into ArticleFinder.
- Click on the
button to see if the article is available in full-text.
- Follow the link to the database that has the full-text availablity.
- Follow the directions below for the specific database you are using.
- NOTE: For some databases, you will need to create links (sometimes called persistent or durable URLs) in order to have a static link that can be used throughout the semester for class use.

Directions for Linking to Articles in Selected Databases
EBSCO: Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, Regional Business News
- Search for the article in Academic Search Premier, or Business Source Premier, or Regional Business News
- Click on the article title to retrieve the full citation.
- Use the Persistent Link at the bottom of the citation to link to the article.
InfoTrac Web (Gale): Expanded Academic ASAP, Literature Resource Center
- Search for the article in Infotrac Web (all Gale databases), or Expanded Academic ASAP or Literature Resource Center
- Click on the article title to retrieve the full citation
- Click on "Source Citation" link. Copy and paste the URL into WebCT to link to the article.
JSTOR
- Search for the article in JSTOR.
- Click on the title for the full citation.
- Click on "Citation/Stable URL" link at top of page -- paste this URLÂ into WebCT to link to the article.
Project Muse
- Search for the full text of the article in Project Muse.
- Use the URL you see in the browser address box at the top of the page to link to the article.
LexisNexis Academic
- Currently, there's no easy and reliable way to create persistent URLs for articles from Lexis Nexis Academic.
- Workaround: send the students to the Lexis Nexis Academic search page and indicate the settings and search terms they'll need to use to find the article.
Science Direct
- Search for the full text of the article in Science Direct.
- Click on "Full Text & Links."
- Right-click on the DOI: (Document Object Identifier) link, above the title in the top left of the page, and then click on the browser command Copy Link Location. This will copy the full DOI link.
- Paste this link directly into WebCT to link to the article.
- Caution: Do not use the URL in the browser address field -- it is anything but durable!
