Printing & Copying with WhoCash

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What is WhoCash?
A:  WhoCash is the campus debit plan that can be used for purchases in all Dining Services locations, the University Bookstore, the University Copy Center, Cholmondley's, Domenics (IBS Bldg), and the laundry rooms in Reitman, Cable, Usen, Renfield, Ziv, Village, Rosenthal, Castle, Shapiro and East residence halls.  After February 25, 2008 WhoCash can be used for printing and photocopying in the Main and Science Libraries, the Shapiro Campus Center, Heller, and IBS. WhoCash is put onto your Brandeis ID card, also known as your WhoCard.

Q:  Why are the libraries and other campus locations planning to offer WhoCash to pay for printing and photocopying?
A:  An overwhelming number of library users and users of printing and photocopying services across campus have requested this service.

Q:  When will I be able to use WhoCash to pay for printing and photocopying?
A:  February 25, 2008

Q:  What are the benefits of using WhoCash to pay for printing and photocopying?
A:  The advantages of WhoCash are you can dine, shop, print, photocopy, and do your laundry around campus without carrying cash or an extra card to print and photocopy!  The WhoCard is also more durable and less prone to error than the print/photocopy cards offered previously at the library.

Q:  Where and how can I refill my WhoCash?
A:   Undergraduates, Graduates, Faculty, and Staff can purchase WhoCash by visiting the Campus Card Office. All Card Office staff require is your ID number and your debit plan will be made available to you immediately. Additionally, after February 29th you will be able to add value to your card online with a credit card.  Watch this space for more information later!

Q:  Which machines will use WhoCash?
A:  Printers and photocopiers in Heller, IBS, Shapiro, and the Main and Science Libraries will accept WhoCash.  Printing from microform machines in the Main and Science Libraries will be free after February 29, 2008.

Q:  Can I still use my old print/copy card? I still have money on it.
A:  One printer and one photocopier in the Farber section of the Main Library, and one photocopier on the lower level of the Science Library, will continue to take your print/copy card.  You can spend down your balance at these three stations and then make the switch to WhoCash!  However, do not worry that we will eliminate this equipment.  We do plan on keeping these machines until January 2011.

Q:  Will the cost of printing/copying change?
A:  Costs will not change.  Printing and photocopying is $0.10 per page for B&W prints and $0.50 per page for color prints.

Q:  I’m making photocopies or printing for an on-campus office and used to use a print/copy card that the office refilled, can the office that I work for print and copy using WhoCash?
A:  The office you work for can make arrangements to add value to your WhoCard by emailing campuscard@brandeis.edu.  Your department will need to provide a chargeline in the email.  You will then receive a response once the WhoCash has been added to your WhoCard.  There are still machines in the Science and Main Libraries that will accept the print/copy card.

Q:  Are there alternatives to photocopying and printing?
A:  More and more people are starting to scan materials and read onscreen in lieu of printing or photocopying.  This saves money and resources.  The Main Library offers scanners in its Information Commons and Faculty Resource Center.  The Science Library will offer scanners in Summer 2008.

Q:  Is duplex printing offered anyplace on campus?
A:  Duplex printing will be offered in the libraries later in Spring 2008.
