This page explains how to use the audiovisual equipment in Schwartz 106.
On the upper-right of the lectern is a CRESTRON touch panel. This looks much like a flat-panel computer monitor. This is where you will control the AV system.
It's likely that the touch panel will be black when you arrive. To "wake" the panel, simply touch it with a fingertip. Once it "wakes" you will see the Brandeis logo and text prompting you to "Press anywhere to start." Touch the screen with a fingertip and you will be brought to the "main screen."
The main screen includes many "buttons." These resemble icons from your computer's desktop, except that you may "push" these buttons by touching them with a fingertip. Included are source buttons (PC, VCR, DVD, etc) volume controls, and system shutdown buttons.
On the CRESTRON main screen is a row of "source buttons." These represent the individual pieces of gear in the system. They include: PC, Mac, External Computer, VCR, DVD, Doc Camera, etc. Select the appropriate source.
You'll notice that if a source requiring projection is selected, the motorized screen will begin to lower automatically. The projector will also turn on automatically.
The projector will take a moment to warm up.
After warming up, the CRESTRON will now display a screen specific to the source you have selected. For example: The VCR screen contains a window for viewing the video and a set of controls for the machine (play, rewind, fast forward, etc.)
In each of the "source screens" you'll notice a "back" button in the lower right hand corner. You may press this at any time to return to the main screen.
Important note: Occasionally a source will not appear when its button is pressed. The solution to this is to press "back" to return to the main screen. Once at the main screen, enter a different source. Once the new source screen appears, press back and then re-enter your initial selection. Example: PC is pressed, but no image appears. Press back, then press a DIFFERENT source (VCR, for example). Once the VCR screen appears, press back again and then re-enter PC.
Mac and PC desktop computers are located in the lower right-hand portion of the lectern. Keyboards are located on sliding "keyboard drawers" directly under the CRESTRON panel.
The PC keyboard is white, while the Mac keyboard is made of clear plastic. Laptop connections are provided to the left of the CRESTRON panel.
The document camera works much like a standard overhead projector, but also allows the display of opaque materials. The document camera is located on the left hand side of the lectern. The document camera has several buttons to note:
