Golding 110 Audiovisual Equipment
This page explains how to use the audiovisual equipment in Golding 110.
Playing Videotapes and DVDs
To open the rack, use the lock combination received during training. If you do not have the combination you may call 6-4632. When opening this lock it is important to note that you must set the combination and then push the lock IN as if trying to close it. It will "pop" open.
- PROJECTOR REMOTE on podium: press the green power button (top right) on the projector remote to turn on the projector. Wait 30 seconds to warm up.
- Press INPUT button on projector remote until you see the word "Video" on screen.
- EQUIPMENT RACK: press the red MAIN POWER switch on rack. This "lights up" when on.
- Insert the videotape gently and evenly into the multi-standard VCR.
- Below the VCR and DVD player is a VCR/DVD selector. Press either the VCR or DVD button.
- Inside the rack is a mixer labeled "VOLUME CONTROLS." Adjust the VCR/DVD volume knob if necessary on VOLUME CONTROLS panel.
- When finished:
- STOP then EJECT the videotape.
- Turn off the MAIN POWER switch on rack.
- Press the green power switch on the projector remote control on the podium to turn off the projector. When you see the confirmation prompt, press it again.
- Lock up the rack.
- Rotate combination lock to display random numbers.
Displaying Computer Output
You need the projector remote, and a computer.
- Connect your computer to the VGA cable on podium. Turn it on.
- PROJECTOR REMOTE on podium: press the green power button (top right) on the projector remote to turn on the projector. Wait 30 seconds to warm up.
- Press INPUT button on projector remote until you see the word "INPUT A" on screen.
- You may log onto the desktop machine by using the username "cluster guest" (no password.)
When you log in, make sure to use the "pull-down" under the password field to select "CLUSTERS."
- Press the green power switch on the projector remote control on the podium to turn off the projector. When you see the confirmation prompt, press it again.
Showing 35mm Slides
You need the slide projector(s) and the remote controls in the rack. To open the rack, use the lock combination received during training.
The room is equipped with two slide projectors with remote controls. The projectors are located in the cabinet in the back of the room. To open the cabinet to load the slide trays, you need to use the combination received during training.
The remote controls are located in the drawer in the rack, in front of the room. To open the rack, use the combination number received during training. Remote controls plug into a wall outlet behind the podium, marked SLIDES, RIGHT, and LEFT.
When finished:
- Return the remote controls to the drawer.
- Lock up the rack.
- Rotate combination lock to display random numbers.
Playing Audiotapes Or CDs
You need the tape/CD player on the rack. To open the rack, use the lock combination received during training.
- EQUIPMENT RACK: press the MAIN POWER switch on rack.
- Insert tape or CD into the player and press corresponding PLAY button.
- Turn down PODIUM on VOLUME CONTROLS. Adjust the Tape or CD volume knobs if necessary on VOLUME CONTROLS panel.
- When finished:
- STOP then EJECT the tape or CD.
- Turn off the MAIN POWER switch on rack.
- Lock up the rack.
- Rotate combination lock to display random numbers.
Using Podium Microphone
You need the main power switch on the rack, and the microphone. To open the rack, use the lock combination received during training.
- EQUIPMENT RACK: press the MAIN POWER switch on rack.
- Adjust the volume if necessary on VOLUME CONTROLS panel with the PODIUM MICROPHONE control.
- When finished:
- Turn off the MAIN POWER switch on rack.
- Lock up the rack.
- Rotate combination lock to display random numbers.
Using Wireless Microphones
You need the microphone in the rack drawer. To open the rack, use the lock combination received during training.
- Equipment Rack: press the MAIN POWER switch on rack.
- The microphone and transmitter are kept in a black pouch in the drawer. You need to turn the transmitter on, and fasten on both the transmitter and the microphone.
- To control the volume, use the "Wireless mic" knob on VOLUME CONTROLS panel on the rack.
- When finished:
- Turn off the microphone.
- Return both the microphone and the transmitter back to the drawer.
- Turn off MAIN POWER switch.
- Lock up the rack.
- Rotate combination lock to display random numbers.
Using Assistive-Listening Devices And Closed-Caption Decoding
This room is equipped with both. To open the rack, use the lock combination received during training.
The Assistive-Listening system consists of a transmitter and headsets with adjustable volume. The transmitter is located on the rack, and is always turned on.
Four headsets are kept in the drawer on the rack; more are available from Media & Language Services office.
Students can borrow the headsets to reinforce the sound signal according to their needs. Sound system has to be used: a wireless microphone, podium microphone, or any other source of audio.
If headsets are given out, please make sure ALL are returned at the end of class.
Each headset has an ON/OFF volume wheel. Be sure to turn it off when finished.
Recently made commercial videotapes or TV programming come with closed-caption encoding. The Closed-Caption decoder lets you display text word-for-word.
To activate the Closed-Caption Decoder:
- Open the rack door (use the lock combination given during training).
- Look for a small white and blue box . Flip the left-hand switch to "1."
- Lock up the rack.
- Rotate combination lock to display random numbers.
