How to operate the Sound System

Contact clusters@brandeis.edu to setup an appointment to review operating procedures. The directions below should then be sufficient as a quick reference.

Make sure that the main power switch (marked POWER) on the main panel is ON.

Turn the main volume control knob (marked VOLUME) to an appropriate level.

On the mixing board, choose the channel by pressing the SOLO button above the channel number

Set the GAIN level knob below the channel number to U (knob should be turned halfway up)

Volume can be controlled in several ways

The GAIN knob can be turned up or down to control sound levels;
The sliding switch to the right of the channel switches labeled CONTROL RM can be used;
Sound from the left and right speakers can be adjusted from the sliding switches marked LEFT and RIGHT;

The main volume control knob can also be used to control system volume-THIS WORK BEST IF THE GAIN KNOB, THE RIGHT/LEFT CONTROLS, AND THE CONTROL RM CONTROL ARE ALL SET TO THE U.

If there is no sound

Check that the main volume control is turned up.

Check that the Control RM, Left and Right, and Gain controls are all turned up.

Check that the appropriate channel has been selected. If there is sound coming through a channel, the green light should be flickering; if the channel is selected and sound is coming through to the mixing board, both the green and red lights should be on.

Check the volume level on the computer's CD Player.
When a CD is inserted, the CD player should pop up on the screen-- the volume control is on the far right.

Check the system volume of the computer.
Click on the loud-speaker icon to the right of the tool bar on the bottom of the computer screen to adjust the volume; alternately, you can go into the Start menu, into Settings, into Control Panels, into Sounds and Multimedia, and adjust the volume from there.

Check to see if the sound output jack in the back of the computer is plugged into an audio jack in the wall.
