Administrators should use care when speaking to film and video vendors, making sure that the print obtained is compatible with the Wasserman Cinemateque facility. At this time, prints may be delivered to the Goldfarb Library, MS 045. Media Technology (MTS) staff are responsible only for (the transfer) - delivering and picking up films marked for Wasserman. The film transfer must occur during normal business hours. MTS does not supply licensed projectionists, but can direct you to one.
Please have all return shipping intructions available for MTS at least 48 hours prior to the return date.
An important note for instructors: Please give your administrators ample advance notice of film showings! Faculty should give their department administrators the complete title of the film, both in English and the language in which it was produced. This will avoid confusion. Example: "Aguire, Wrath of God" vs. "Wrath of God". Faculty should also provide full logistical detail, i.e. expected date of arrival, showing date and time, return date, and all associated shipping and billing information. Film transfer requests to MTS must be made no later than two weeks in advance.
Wasserman Cinemateque projection capabilities: 1.33, 1.66, 1.85, and scope formats With certain silent films, there are prints with a full frame aspect ratio. Special arrangements need to be made with the licensed projectionist to screen these films. MTS does not supply licensed projectionists, but can direct you to a source. Please let MTS know one month ahead of time when these special arrangements are needed.
Wasserman can play optical soundtracks only, no magnetic tracks. It handles most sound formats except for digital. Films with digital sound tracks can also be shown in Dolby SR or Mono, usually available on all digital prints as a back up.
When booking your films, please let your administrators and MTS know which of these formats have been requested. Film canisters do not clearly define sound formats. The projectionist is much more prepared if sound formats are documented in the work order ahead of time. Please remember, OPTICAL sound only on Wasserman's 16mm and 35mm gear.
