Sharing an iPod for recording assignments

When sharing an iPod for recording or interviewing it is best if the ipod is associated with one computer and one copy of iTunes.

When you connect your iPod to your computer iTunes opens and Voice Memos appears in the source list as a separate playlist. (left hand pane)
  1. Create a folder on your hard drive to archive your Voice Memos to your local computer.
  2. Choose the Voice Memo playlist and drag your Voice Memos to your local folder.

To share the iPod you will need to enable the iPod as a hard drive. See instuctions here.
  1. When you connect your iPod to a second computer iTunes opens and asks you if you want to associate your iPod with this computer. Choose no and close iTunes.
  2. Open your iPod as a hard drive.
On a PC:
  • Click to open "My Computer".
  • Click to open your iPod as a removeable drive.
  • Click to open the folder "Recordings".
  • Your voice memos should be saved here as .wav files.
  • Copy these files to a folder on your computer.

  • On a Mac:
  • Click on the icon for your iPod.
  • Click to open the Recordings folder.
  • Copy your voice memos to a folder on your computer.
