Browsing for Books

LOUIS is the online catalog of the Brandeis Libraries, and is the principal means of locating books in the library collections. The database can be searched by author, title, subject, journal title, or key word.

Brandeis uses the Library of Congress (LC) system of classification for arranging books on the shelves. The following (LC) classification numbers may be used for browsing for books related to human reproductive biology. Most libraries in the Boston Library Consortium use the LC system. However, the same book may be assisgned different numbers in different libraries. If you are interested in a specific item, always check the catalog first.
HB848-HB3700 Population, Demography, Vital Statistics
HQ503-HQ1064 The Family. Marriage
QH431 Human Genetics
QH471-QH491 Reproduction. Developmental Biology
QH600 Chromosomes
QH605 Cell Division
QM601-QM691 Human Embryology
RB155 Medical Genetics. Genetic Counseling
RG551-RG648 Pregnancy & the Fetus

For books located in other libraries outside of Brandeis, please use:

  • Worldcat --a database listing books and other resources held in libraries throughout the country
  • Libdex --a meta-index to hundreds of library online catalogs around the world
