Cooperative Borrowing Programs

National Borrowing Programs


In addition to the Boston Library Consortium, Brandeis University Library and Technology Services belongs to three other consortia through which you may gain access to other libraries and their collections.


OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program

The Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program of OCLC grants faculty members of participating institutions borrowing privileges at some of the most important research libraries in North America.

Consult the list of OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program participants to see if the library you are interested in visiting participates in this program.

Access details:

  • Brandeis University faculty must register for an OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing card at the InfoPoint at the Main Library.
  • Faculty members visiting from participating institutions must register for a borrowing card at their home institution.

Research Libraries Group (RLG)

The RLG Shares program grants Brandeis faculty members and professional staff at participating institutions on-site access and usage privileges at RLG institutions.  This does not include borrowing privileges.

Consult the list of RLG institutions to see if the library you are interested in visiting is a member of RLG.

Access details:

  • Brandeis University faculty must present a Brandeis ID card when visiting an RLG institution, and may even want to call the library first to inquire about any other requirements that may be in place.
  • Faculty members visitng Brandeis from other RLG institutions should present an ID card from their institution.

CARLJS (The Council of Archives and Research Libraries in Jewish Studies)

Through Brandeis's affiliation with CARLJS, Brandeis faculty members are granted onsite access and use of facilities at CARLJS institutions. This does not include borrowing privileges.

Consult the list of CARLJS institutions to see what libraries and archives specializing in Jewish archival and research collections you have access to.
