Description
The rust and corruption of the decadent Ottoman Empire at the close of World War I brought a violent revolution from the young Turks, and one of their leaders, Mustapha Kemal, organized an astonishing resistance movement that, within a few years, liberated Turkey from foreign control. As President of the new republic Mustapha broke with the religious, cultural and social mores of the past and wrought an industrial, agricultural, educational and nationalist revolution that brought Turkey vigorously into the 20th century.
