History--Biography
The Division of Student Life is responsible for the quality of student
life outside the classroom, as well as for providing opportunities for
students to develop skills and interests beyond their academic course
work. Among its areas of concern are social, cultural, intellectual,
recreational, and religious programs; residential life; intercollegiate
and intramural athletics; health and counseling services; the
availability of professional resources to aid students in their present
endeavors and future educational and career planning; and student conduct
matters. The Division of Student Life is responsible for the management
of all residence halls - including events programming and the Faculty
Residence program - and oversees Usdan Student Center, Cholmondley's,
and the Student Services Bureau. Student Life also advises over 200 clubs
and organizations, the student judicial system, and Student Events. It
coordinates such events as undergraduate Orientation, Family Weekend,
Black History Month, Women's History Month, College Bowl, Earth
Month, and Senior Week, and publishes the yearbook and "Take the
Lead" series. An Associate Dean and a Director, who report to the
Dean of Student Affairs, head the Division.
The Dean of Student Affairs coordinates student services through the
following departments: Student Activities, Community Service, Residence
Life, Student Development, Athletics and Physical Education, Judicial
Education, the Intercultural Center, Hiatt Career Center, the Health
Center, and the Psychological Counseling Center. The Division of Student
Affairs responds to student emergencies, addresses problems related to
student issues, provides staff in-service training, advises the Graduate
Student Association and graduate orientation, and heads the Student Media
Advisory Board and the Prizes and Awards Committee. Media Advisory Board

This collection, which contains materials dating from 1949 through 2008,
includes memos, brochures, announcements, schedules, programs, published
material, slides, and posters. These materials relate to residential life
or events coordinated by the Division of Student Life.
