Images of Brandeis 1948-1998

Return to Brandeis 50th Anniversary Page

Introduction

Fifty years worth of memories is not an easy thing to capture. Since 1948 it has been the job of the University Photographer to capture on film the collective memory of Brandeis University. The photographic negatives from the University Photographer are now housed in the Robert D. Farber University Archives of the Brandeis University Libraries. "Images of Brandeis, 1948-1998" is an exhibit that displays a small portion of the photographs taken by Ralph Norman, University Photographer 1948 to 1982, and Julian Brown, University Photographer since 1983. It has been presented by the Brandeis University 50th Anniversary Exhibit Committee and will hang in the exhibit area on the 2nd level of the Goldfarb Library until June 1999.

"Images of Brandeis, 1948-1998" displays images of student activities, athletic events, classroom scenes, special visitors, and cultural events. There is at least one picture for each year between 1948 and 1998. Through this digital version of the exhibit you may browse the pictures on the list below or you may select a picture on the list and then move from one picture to the next using the directional buttons. As all web sites do, this digital exhibit will be developed over time so you may find additional information every time you visit.

We encourage you to travel through the fifty years of Brandeis images and to add your memories. You may send us your thoughts, memories, and anecdotes by clicking on the the following link beneath each photograph: Archives & Special Collections. Enjoy!
