"The People's Attorney": Introduction
Welcome to
the online display of one of the most important collections held by the
Brandeis University Libraries’ Special Collections Department: the
personal papers of Louis D. Brandeis. Complementing the records of
Brandeis’ life kept at the University of Louisville and the Harvard Law
School, this collection preserves a unique perspective not only on the history
of Brandeis’ many and significant public roles, but also on the character
of his private life.
The exhibit items are but a portion of the Brandeis papers held in Special Collections. The complete collection houses personal correspondence of the Justice and his family, many publications authored by or concerning Brandeis, financial documents, a photograph collection, newsclippings, and a variety of additional materials pertaining to his life and work. The collection as a whole is informative not only about the details of Brandeis’ life, but also offers a wealth of material on American legal history, Boston municipal history, the Progressive and Zionist movements, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the foundation and early years of Brandeis University. The physical installation of “The People’s Attorney” exhibit will be on display in the Farber Archives on the 2nd floor of the Goldfarb Library throughout the fall semester of 1999. The exhibit is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
