How do I get a computer, if I don't have one?

Your department administrator (or you, if your department does not have an administrator) should call the IT Service Center at extension 6-7782 or send an email to itservice@brandeis.edu

How do I get an email account and get hooked up to the Internet?

If you have a Web Browser (Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer) on your computer, go to https://unet.brandeis.edu and set up a UNet account for your email. If you have more questions, or you do not have an active data port or you don't have a Web browser on your computer, please contact the LTS Tech Desk at extension 6-7782.

Can I get my email at home?

Brandeis University does not provide PPP dial-in service to its users. In other words, to use Netscape, Eudora or Outlook Express from home, you must subscribe to your own choice of Internet Service Provider, much in the same way that you subscribe to your choice of long distance carrier. Once subscribed, you can set UNet mail options, including forwarding your e-mail to a different address. Directions can be found at https://unet.brandeis.edu.

How do I get software for my computer?

There is a list of all supported software on our website. You should always use programs from this list unless you need a program for a task not included in the list.

LTS licenses many software programs and has special buying arrangements for many others. You can order any of these programs using our on-line software request form. The form requires a Brandeis department chargeline. Other software must be ordered through the Brandeis Procurement office.

How do I get on the University ListServ in order to receive University information?

The HR List Serv is one of the most effective ways to receive important and timely University information. As a new employee, you are automatically subscribed to the HR List Serv when you obtain a UNet account for your e-mail.

What if I need to create a ListServ of my own?

Complete the on-line Request for a mailing list form.

What do I do if my computer hardware is broken or if my computer needs an upgrade?

Contact the LTS Repair Shop at extension 6-4801. The Repair Shop services Apple products, Dell, IBM, Compaq, and other name-brand computers as well as printers, scanners and other peripherals. Rates are very competitive with other area repair services.

How do I link to Calendar?

Complete the online form to request a Calendar account. You must also have a copy of the CorporateTime Calendar program installed on your computer. If you need the program installed, call the IT Service Center at extension 6-7782.

How do I locate someone at Brandeis, using the on-line directory?

Go to: http://www.unet.brandeis.edu/directory.phtml Visit the People Directory search page and follow the steps outlined on that page.

How do I request additional computer training?

LTS has contracted with New Horizons, Inc. to provide training for faculty and staff at one of their four Boston locations. Classes are generally $95 a day. LTS will assist you, if necessary, in signing up for the class.

More information on New Horizons is available in our training section.
