Video/DVD Academic Screening

This agreement establishes the rules for showing videos and DVDs for academic purposes on campus.

Eligibility

This document applies only to faculty using videos and DVDs as part of class-related instruction. It does not cover non-academic use, any public display not related to a specific course, or any display to students or others not enrolled in the related course.

Guidelines

Faculty must comply with all applicable copyright laws. Faculty needing guidance on copyright issues should contact Sherry Keen, Associate Director, Resource Management and Budget. Common limitations on the display of videos are:

  • Only legally obtained copies may be shown. Illegally duplicated videos are not permitted.
  • No fee may be charged for display of the video.

Showing During Class

Please consult the list of classrooms equipped for showing videos/DVDs. Faculty may reserve rooms through Janet Driscoll in the Registrar's Office, (jdriscoll@brandeis.edu or x62020). Library-owned videos/DVDs may be checked out of the library by a faculty member or their proxy. Contact the Library & Technology Services' Access Services Department (x 64621 or reserve@brandeis.edu) in advance of the class.

Showing Outside of Class

Faculty members may reserve Shiffman 201 for showing videos by contacting Media Services at x64429. At the instructor's request, Media Services will train the student in the use of the projection equipment. Contact the Libraries' Access Services Department (x64621 or reserve@brandeis.edu) in advance of the showing.
