Accessing computer services

What public access for computing is available to students?

The campus has numerous public computer clusters as well as an increasing wireless network. There is approximately one public computer for every eighteen undergraduates.

Does the campus provide institutional email accounts for all students and use email as an official medium of communication?

Brandeis provides @brandeis.edu email accounts for its students, faculty and staff. Email is treated as an official medium of communication. Nearly, if not all, students use email and other software applications on a regular basis to communicate with faculty and fellow students as well as to complete homework assignments.

Does the campus provide and support electronic space for personal student webpages?

All undergraduates receive 500mb on the campus network when they create their University Network (UNet) account. Users can use this space, to save files for private use or to make them available on the Web.

Connecting with others

Is contact information for students, faculty, and staff readily accessible electronically?

Contact information for all Brandeis members is available in the online and paper directory. Students can edit their directory listing online and choose to show/hide certain personal information.

What social activities and services are available online?

Brandeis offers great services online, such as campus classifieds, discussion forums and a personal calendar through myBrandeis.

Are there websites for student organizations and clubs?

Many student organizations and clubs have websites which are linked from parts of the Brandeis website. They may use Brandeis webspace or choose to host their site elsewhere.

Does the campus make available online discussion forums or bulletin boards for un-moderated use?

Yes, Brandeis has moderated and un-moderated online campus-wide discussions via the myBrandeis forum.

What technology-supported career-planning services are available for students.

The Hiatt Career Center offers technology-supported career-planning services, such as through JAMIN (Jobs, Advice, Mentors, Internships, Networking).
