Brandeis makes many student service processes available online, so that you can check grades, access library materials, sign up for courses, and more without leaving your computer.

Managing your personal information

What personal information can you view online - your contact information, grades, degree progress, financial status, or other information?

All students can access personal information, such as contact information, grades, degree progress, financial status online, and admission status.

All information regarding admission to Brandeis and receiving financial aid is available online or in print form. The necessary forms can be submitted electronically or hardcopy.

Can you update any of this information online yourself?

Registration, including dropping and adding courses can be processed online. In addition, students can view account balances online as well as pay their campus long distance telephone bill. Through the campus bookstore's website, students can make purchases online, including reserving textbooks for pickup.

What campus and community services are covered by debit-card, smart-card, or one-card systems?

Brandeis University's ID card, the WhoCard can be used as a debit card. Students can go to the Campus Card Office to add 'WhoCash' to their card, which can be used at numerous locations on and off campus (including the campus bookstore, campus dining facilities, and select local restaurants).

Are the school catalog - including course descriptions, degree requirements, and academic policies - and the semester/term schedule of classes available on the Web?

The Office of the Registrar posts the current, past and provisional copies of the University Bulletin.

Privacy, security, and usage rules

What security and privacy policies are in place to protect student information?

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides students with the right of access to their educational records and allows students to challenge the accuracy of the records as well as prohibiting the non-consensual release of such information except in limited circumstances.Faculty advisors are allowed to view certain student information as determined by the Registrar.

How does the campus protect students from identity theft?

Brandeis protects students from identity theft by encouraging the creation of strong passwords and good behavior dealing with personal information. In addition, student ID numbers have been changed from social security numbers to random generated IDs, to further protect the Brandeis community.

How does the campus notify students of their rights under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)?

Every student is notified about their rights under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and is required to read a written docuement about it.

Is network bandwidth limited for peer-to-peer software, gaming, Web cams, or other programs requiring high levels of network resources? Are webpages filtered?

Brandeis does not currently limit bandwidth for specific programs or devices, nor does it filter webpages.

Is there a campus code of behavior about using computer resources?

Yes, there is a campus code of behavior, located in the LTS Policy section. Users must also obey local, state, and federal laws.

Does the campus have policies addressing peer-to-peer file sharing, virus software, and copyright?

Brandeis has information about peer-to-peer file sharing, in regards to limiting your bandwith if you are consistently a top user. Once plugged into the campus network, all users are required to install Symantec AntiVirus, which Brandeis has a license for. Copyright laws are taken seriously for all members of the Brandeis community. Instructors adhere to fair use guidelines when posting materials to a class and students must follow cite sources properly. Find out more.

How does the campus manage email spam?

Brandeis refuses about 30,000 spam emails every day. In addition, through Webmail or your email client, you can add increased spam filters.
