The Robert D. Farber University Archives serves as the central repository for information and records created by, for, and about Brandeis University.
Its mission is to collect, preserve, and make available permanent records of historical, legal, fiscal, administrative, and research value to the Brandeis community and to provide a useful information service to its members and the general public.
The University Archives' primary responsibility is to collect, appraise, arrange, describe, preserve, and provide access to recorded data in all formats produced as part of the official business of the University. Its secondary responsibility is to publicize the content, value, and potential uses of its archival collections to the University and larger research communities through classroom education, public exhibitions, and community outreach and programming.
Special Collections houses many of the Libraries' "jewels," which consist primarily of rare books and special collections. The Department supports the teaching, learning, and research interests of Brandeis faculty and students by collecting primary and secondary resources, in all formats, that support the academic curriculum. Through its varied outreach activities, the Department strives to make these materials available to the Brandeis community and to visiting scholars. Researchers and students are encouraged to use the Department's materials, in accordance with the Department's policies.
