Desktop Systems Engineer
Responsible for design, implementation, maintenance, operation, and support of an Enterprise Desktop Infrastructure System for centralized remote computer.
Academic Systems Administrator
I help manage and coordinate academic systems and services, principally LATTE, Turnitin, Omeka, Scalar, and other related tools. I am also an alum of Brandeis, earning my B.A. in History in 2000. Currently I am enrolled in the MS in Instructional Design and Technology through the Rabb GPS school. Outside of Brandeis, I am the father to a little redheaded toddler, spouse to a veterinarian, and caretaker to two cats. I am also an avid boardgamer, medieval re-enactor, a cappella singer and enthusiast, con-staffer, and semi-active as a musician and a theater professional.
I work with professors and staff for academic technology instruction, technology advocacy in the classroom, and LATTE course support. I am an alumni earning both my undergraduate degree and my Masters of Arts in Teaching from Brandeis. I have taught 11th, 8th, and 7th grade English, Special Education, and English Language Learners in grades K-12. On the weekends I enjoy snuggling with my yellow lab, reading, sailing, theater, and skiing (winter is coming!).
AV Services Lead
I'm part of the MTS team within LTS. I oversee all event support on campus, from large events such as commencement to small student group events. Some of my hobbies are skiing, music and camping.
Desktop Systems Engineer
Administering campus wide use of Casper Suite and Macintosh Management/Patching infrastructure, including policy creation and manage Self-Service portal, Imaging. Previously I worked at Tech Superpowers as Apple Service Technician, before that Tech Support Coordinator at Berklee College of Music. Some of my hobbies are: Softball, Snowboarding and Rock Climbing.
Media and Technology Systems Administrator / MakerLab Embedded Systems & Robotics Consultant
MTS: I am responsible for classroom computing in MTS. This includes imaging computers, diagnosing PC problems, updating software, etc. I am responsible for MTS's various Collaboration Stations and digital signage. I also work closely with Eli Jacobson to handle our various servers. MakerLab: In the MakerLab I am a consultant for embedded systems and robotics. I teach a soldering class every week and work with several students on hardware hacking, robotics, and filament recycling. My current favorite hobbies that relate to the lab are multi-rotors, combat robotics, web development and 3D printing but you can ask me anything and if I don't know the answer I'll help find someone who does. Come visit the lab!
Digital Media and Conferencing Lead
I work in Media Technology Services and oversee the university's digital media content delivery systems including our video server (Ensemble Video) and automated lecture capture system (Echo360). I am also the main support staff for online virtual communications tools such as Blue Jeans and Adobe Connect, as well as other tools for web conferencing. You will also find me supporting classroom A/V systems as well as live events along with the rest of the MTS staff. I got my BA from The Evergreen State College in Media Technology and Eco/Social Justice. I am currently in a Masters program at Brandeis for IT Management. I like technology, food and doing fun things outside when possible.
Assistant Director for Technology Services & Support
I oversee Tier 1 and Tier 2 technology support for faculty, staff, and students. I hold a B.A. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Information Technology Management. On the side, I TA "The Business of Sports" at Tufts University and am part-owner of SportsPix, a sports photography company. Tom Brady and David Ortiz are my heroes.
Associate Director for Academic Technology
My group deals with all manner of technology that affects instructions. We manage LATTE (Brandeis's Learning Management System), and work with faculty on tools and concepts including Qualtrics (surveys), Omeka (timelines and exhibits), data analysis, assistive and accessible technology, instructional design, and lots of others. I'm an avid reader across all fields, and review books for Publishers Weekly. Other hobbies include cooking, walking (I walk 6.5 miles to campus each day), and puzzles and games of all kinds. My spouse and I have one daughter, three cats, and one dog.
Assistant Director of Desktop Systems Engineering
Oversight of campus computer management for centrally funded computers, as well as endpoint backup. I also run the Refresh program that distributes computers to centrally funded departments across campus on a four year cycle.
Executive IT Support
I provide IT support to the executive offices at Brandeis. Outside work, my hobbies rotate between photography, woodworking, and RC planes: reading is a constant.
Senior Hardware Repair Technician
I have been running the LTS computer repair shop for over a decade, supporting Apple and Dell machines under warranty (and anything else outside of warranty that we can get parts for) for faculty and staff business and personal machines as well as student-owned machines. I also have a second job on the side as a knitting designer of some renown.
Associate Director for Desktop Computing
I oversee several functional areas including computer support (both hardware and software), proactive management of faculty and staff computers, executive support, research lab support, faculty and staff computer refresh, public computer labs and hands-on computer classrooms, and the Maker Lab. I hold a B.Mus. from the University of Massachusetts and an M.F.A. in Musicology from Brandeis. In my spare time, I am a parent, a medieval re-enactor, and a belly dance teacher. (In the profile picture, I'm wearing the crown given to me by my Help Desk students.)
Assistant Director of Research Technology and Innovation / Head of MakerLab
Ian works with researchers to overcome the technological hurdles they encounter in their workflows, top to bottom, and is constantly running local pilots in new technologies to address their needs. His work touches on desktop/laptop/server break-fix, digital forensics and security tools, institutional storage of big or toxic data, Cloud collaboration and backup in a research context, and many of the new toolsets in the Maker community, including support of touch and gesture inputs, multiple displays, VR headsets, 3D printing, 3D scanning, and prototyping with embedded systems (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and Electronic IMP). Ian was the project lead in developing both the Research Technology department and the MakerLab at Brandeis. Ian is descended from samurai and has studied Japanese sword for over 10 years. He is also a Brandeis alumnus, graduating in 2005 with dual majors in Philosophy and Economics and a concentration in Film Studies. From 2005 to 2010, he worked for a high end jeweler in downtown Los Angeles as the in-house photographer. He has a strong background in digital photography, digital fabrication, and new media marketing. He has also read and pitched around 1000 screenplays as a professional reader at a small boutique Los Angeles-based production company. He coached the Brandeis Ski Team for 2 seasons, a team on which he was a 2 year captain during his undergraduate career. He is currently the staff advisor to Deis3D.org, the Brandeis 3D printing club.
